Code of Kyngesbridge

  1. Fealty - Although fealty is required from some household members as part of their station within the SCA (i.e. Knights, squires, etc.), fealty is not required of any other member of the household itself. This means that individuals swear their fealty if they so choose, but Kyngesbridge, as a household will not swear unless all members are in unanimous agreement to do so.

  2. Loyalty - Loyalty to the household is required. This loyalty may be demonstrated by service to the household (e.g. participation in camp chores, serving table and washing dishes at feast, maintenance of household property, service as a household officer, etc). Support of other members in ways such as lending a hand where needed, refraining from airing personal opinion of current monarchs in public, or supporting members who may be royalty (in some way - not necessarily as retainers.) N.B. All members must continually contribute in some way, no matter how small, to the well being of the household.

  3. Rank - All members are equal within the household. Everyone is entitled to express their opinion, without fear or reservation, for consideration by others. It should be expected by all members, however, that the SCAdian public may perceive Kyngesbridge to be headed by the highest-ranking members, and they should be prepared to deal with dismissive, or rude, behavior by those who do not want to speak with "underlings." However, as all members of Kyngesbridge are friends, all members should be treated with equal respect and courtesy, regardless of rank or public opinion.

  4. Admission to the household - If someone is nominated for membership in the household, that person must undergo a candidacy period, during which time each member may get to know the nominee. The candidacy period will last until each member feels comfortable making a decision regarding the candidates admission. The vote for admission will be conducted by secret ballot, and must be unanimous for the nominee to be granted membership. Members may elect to cast a vote of "Abstain" if they do not feel qualified to make a decision. All abstentious votes will be counted with the majority.

  5. Expulsion from the household - In the unlikely event that the other members deem someone in the household no longer worthy of membership, then that person may be expelled. The vote for expulsion will be conducted by secret ballot and must be unanimous for the member to be expelled.

  6. Officers - To ensure smooth operation, the household requires several routine functions be performed. Volunteers should fill these offices. In the event that more than one member desires the office, a simple majority vote will be conducted. Officers have no special rights or privileges over other members, only additional responsibilities. Officers may step down at any time without cause, and a replacement should be found as soon as possible.
